CONVERSION FROM LEASEHOLD TO FREEHOLD

Earlier, the conversion of properties from leasehold to freehold was a slow and tiresome process and the public was facing many problems, especially due to the need for a large number of documents, traditional manual payment mechanisms, and non-harmonization of payment statements. DDA has simplified the process of conversion by reducing the required documents, facilitating the public to view their payment details online, facilitating them to pay online.

About the Service

The conversion of a property from leasehold to freehold in Delhi has long been an unresolved issue that has kept many property owners in the city anxious for a long time. The procedure for such conversions has been much debated by the authorities after the Supreme Court passed a judgement in October 2011 that stated the need for a registered deed of conveyance for transfer of immovable property.

The approval of conversion of a property from leasehold to freehold by Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, in January 2015, finally brought relief to a large number of residents in Delhi whose term leases had expired. Post this development, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has expedited the procedure for conversion of properties on the basis of registered agreement to sell and general power of attorney (GPA).
